"And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."

best explanation I’ve seen! I couldn’t put it better myself!!
S’one reason why I’m so quiet~

At my first animal hospital job, I was called in to a meeting with the manager after a couple of weeks, and I was astounded and crushed to learn that apparently I was seen to be causing trouble because I “hated” everyone and “didn’t want” to be working there. That wasn’t true, I loved the job. As it turns out, everyone assumed that because I was so quiet as I went about my work — and it’s just because of this. I don’t make small talk, it’s not comfortable for me. If I don’t have anything I need to say, I won’t. This doesn’t mean I’m not happy to talk if someone wants to talk to me… it just means I need them to start.

Luckily, my supervisor comforted me afterward and found this out and told everyone else, who soon learned that once engaged in a conversation, I may not shut up. It’s hard for extroverts to understand sometimes, I think. Silence doesn’t necessarily mean dislike or disinterest. Sometimes it’s just silence. If it bothers you, try breaking it. We’ll follow your lead.

Good above commentary. I had something similar happen at one of my internship jobs. - I was surrounded by extroverts, but I never had much to contribute, so i just… stayed quiet.

did you mean my biggest fear at work

Wait you mean people can assume you dislike them even when you’re quiet?? ;__;

aw man guess I’m dead either way whenever I enter the real world ahh;;;

"Introverts, in contrast, may have strong social skills and enjoy parties and business meetings, but after a while wish they were home in their pajamas. They prefer to devote their social energies to close friends, colleagues, and family. They listen more than they talk, think before they speak, and often feel as if they express themselves better in writing than in conversation. They tend to dislike conflict. Many have a horror of small talk, but enjoy deep discussions."  - Susan Cain, Quiet (via revelationsong)
