How is your jaw doing now that you’re well into recovery? I’m having my surgery on Tuesday, and I can’t believe that it’s happening after a year of preparation.

(so I managed to delete the ask on my tablet oops thank goodness for email alerts)

Tuesday, huh? Best of luck to you! That’s coming up fast. Get a few good last meals in, you’ll miss “real” food soon. ;) I’ll have my fingers crossed for you.

Let’s see, I’m four months post-op. I’m doing really well actually. Unfortunately I mostly post about the bad times but I have had a DRAMATIC decrease in my pain. I used to wake up at a 9/10 every morning and had constant headaches. Now I average brief periods of maybe hitting a 2 or 3 on the pain scale, and I usually spend most of the day pain-free. I get some popping which I am told is normal (something about air pockets by the fat graft) and there’s still a funny crinkly sound when I swallow - still need to ask them if that will be around forever or not. Eating is pretty exhausting for me but I suppose that’ll improve over time. Like I said in my last post, I’m having some difficulty adjusting to the change in how my jaw and mouth are shaped and aligned but it’s tolerable. (From what I understand I now have more room in my mouth? So instead of being crowded like it was my tongue is like “omg so much room what do I do?”)

I’m not going to lie it’s a huge recovery process. I gripe about it a lot but it was absolutely worth it.

I’m beginning to wonder if my insurance would cover speech therapy.

Ever since my jaw surgery it feels like I don’t know how to hold my mouth right? If that even makes sense. And certain sounds are difficult to form with my mouth because suddenly everything is different and how do I reteach myself how to speak after 24 years?

I’ll give it a little while though, maybe once they readjust my bite that will help things. Funny how I made fun of my mom when she suggested this months ago.

Not sure who Felice Fawn is, but just goes to show that skinny shaming is not only real, but that society can switch it’s criticism so quickly that women can rarely do anything right. Even when I was younger I remember my brother calling me fat and then anorexic in the same breath. Just remember to focus on your own beauty and forget the ugly words of others.
